We all want a cosy night in with our partner. A couch made up mostly of blankets, wine, and a movie or two. Alas, if you're like me, you may want to see some blood and guts on your screen during the date night. But ya know, something with a romantic twist. (As romantic as horror movies can be, that is) Here is my list of horror movies that I would gladly watch on a date night, that may not entirely kill the romantic buzz.
IT (1990)
Synopsis: In a small town, a group of children are terrorised in their youth by an evil force. Thirty years later, when they learn of a new series of child murders, they return to see if they can't stop it once and for all. Adults now, with success in diverse careers, they still must come to terms with their pasts and with the evil that stalks their New England home town, and their own fears and nightmares.
Starring: Tim Curry, Seth Green, Annette O'Toole
First loves, a love triangle, and the underdog love interest. Need I say more? I'll admit to enjoying the 2017 version way more, but that had far less romantic elements so we're going classic with this one. You've probably already seen this pick, but a rewatch never hurt anybody!

The Conjuring 2
Synopsis: In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren come out of a self-imposed sabbatical to travel to Enfield, a borough in north London. There, they meet Peggy Hodgson, an overwhelmed single mother of four who tells the couple that something evil is in her home. Ed and Lorraine believe her story when the youngest daughter starts to show signs of demonic possession. As the Warrens try to help the besieged girl, they become the next targets of the malicious spirit.
Starring: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Madison Wolfe
If you haven't seen the first Conjuring movie, don't fret. It isn't necessary. Let's start by saying that the couple portrayed in these movies may be the sweetest couple in any horror franchise. Their romance was down played in the first movie (hence my suggestion being the second), but in the sequel? Oy vey, you will have toothache from the sweetness. Step back Romeo and Juliet.
-
My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Synopsis: An unorthodox college professor leads his best students off the grid to perform a dangerous experiment to create a poltergeist. Operating under the theory that paranormal activity is triggered by negative human energy, the group uses a series of tests to push a young woman to the edge of sanity. Frightening occurrences with unspeakable consequences subsequently unfold, leading the researchers to the realization that they have unleashed a force more terrifying than they could have imagined.
Starring: Jensen Ackles, Kerr Smith, Jamie King
This may be the most cliche on my list, but ya know, we all love some cheesiness. And it has Dean Winchester and Kyle Brody! My Supernatural and Charmed fangirlness has never been happier. Seen as the movie has "Valentine" in the title, it is fairly obvious why this one made the list. Though it isn't as good as the 2001 Valentine movie (I mean, come on, Angel! My Buffy fangirlness way outweighs the other fangirl sides of me), I decided to go with the more modern one. Mainly because I think Jensen Ackles will sell it to you. I mean, I'm right, right?
-
Horns
Synopsis: Blamed for the murder of his girlfriend, a man awakes one morning to find he has grown a pair of horns. Armed, now, with supernatural powers, he sets out to find the killer.
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Juno Temple
I'd call this one more of a thriller than horror, but alas, it's making the list. This has become one of my favourite movies over the past few years. I hated it when I first watched it, it wasn't what I was expecting and that threw me off, but alas I couldn't get some scenes out of my mind so I sat down for a rewatch and grew to love it. It's subtle yet heavy romantic story captured my heart, and if you don't finish this watch cursing the world, then.. your heart is as cold as steel. Not even Superman manly steel, but plain, cold, hard steel.

The Quiet Ones
Synopsis: An unorthodox college professor leads his best students off the grid to perform a dangerous experiment to create a poltergeist. Operating under the theory that paranormal activity is triggered by negative human energy, the group uses a series of tests to push a young woman to the edge of sanity. Frightening occurrences with unspeakable consequences subsequently unfold, leading the researchers to the realization that they have unleashed a force more terrifying than they could have imagined.
Starring: Olivia Cooke, Sam Claflin, Jared Harris
Teen angsty romances are always a hit or miss in horror movies. It's either too try hard, or plain old instant love, which sucks. This one however is a great gem in the artsy horror world. Olivia Cooke's performance as Jane Harper made me adore her as an actress. Though she's hands down the breakout star of this flick, Sam Claflin does an excellent job of portraying a young man torn between affection and science. This is a must watch if you love paranormal things and a good "but they are so sweet together" story.
-
Halloween H20
Synopsis: Set 20 years after the original Halloween movie, Laurie Strode, now the dean of a Northern California private school with an assumed name, must battle the Shape one last time and now the life of her own son hangs in the balance.
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Josh Hartnett, Michelle Williams
If you know me at all, you already knew this would make the list. It's jus a really good well rounded movie! It's my happy movie (no, I'm not a psychopath). But to fit this category, it most definitely works perfectly. We have the first love of John and Molly, and we have Laurie herself finding love, in all her messed up glory. Plus, come on, I think we all know that the security guard Ronny and his girlfriend may be the most unappreciated couple in all of horror movie history.

Ahhh, I'm ashamed to say I've never seen any of these fabulous Halloween films, they all look perfect for fright night feels, especially Halloween H20, digging the 90s vibes from the poster! :) Boyf and I love the first two I Know What You Did last Summer films as well as Scream and Urban Legend. Anything 90s always gets my vote for sure! And I suppose it's not really a true Halloween film but boyf and I always love to watch "Gone Girl" as our date night movie! Wishing you the dreamiest Halloween ahead lovely babe! ♥︎
